Backpack Drive: A Successful Community Effort

Our Kiwanis club came together on Saturday, September 6th for another meaningful community service project, filling backpacks with essential school supplies for students in need. Thanks to the generous efforts of members Servando and Cindy, we had 100 brand-new backpacks ready to go!

The packing event took place at Orozco’s Auto Service on Atlantic Avenue, where our dedicated volunteers gathered at 10 AM to sort and pack supplies. Despite being short on a few items like pencil boxes, sharpeners, pink erasers, and crayons, our team’s resourcefulness and community spirit shone through.

By the end of our packing session, we had successfully filled 70 backpacks with school supplies that will make a real difference in students’ educational journeys. The energy and teamwork displayed by our members, along with friends and family who joined us, truly embodied the Kiwanis spirit of serving children and communities.

Following our productive morning, many volunteers enjoyed lunch together at Patricia’s Restaurant across the street, celebrating our collective accomplishment and fellowship.

The impact of our work became even more meaningful when 30 of the completed backpacks were delivered to Lydia House, where they were received with genuine gratitude. These supplies will directly support students who might otherwise go without essential classroom materials.

This project represents exactly what Kiwanis is about, neighbors helping neighbors and ensuring that every child has the tools they need to succeed in school. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and resources to make this backpack drive such a success.
