Kiwanis Club of Bixby Knolls North Long Beach recently celebrated its 27th year of recognizing students from local middle schools for being outstanding students.

Kiwanis Club of Bixby Knolls North Long Beach on May 28 celebrated its 27th year of recognizing students from local middle schools for being outstanding students, with an emphasis on citizenship. A delicious luncheon was served at The Grand, where the scholarship awards were presented by President Tony Diaz. The group was entertained by Merle Anderson, a longtime member of Kiwanis, who played a musical saw.

Palmira Suarez, Helen Padilla Hernandez and Darlin Mejia Hernandez from Jordan High School were presented with scholarship awards. Also recognized were middle school exceptional students, introduced by their school principals.

Included in the program were Morjan Taghehchian from 1st Bank, Edward Samuels from the LBUSD office, Gabriel Cortez and Shannon Johnson from the Fifth District City Council office, Brandi Brown and Esther Ogunrinu from the Eighth City Council District Office, and Manuel Valenzuela from the Cal Heights Neighborhood Association.
