New Leadership Era Begins with President Myra Kremen
Our Kiwanis club marked a significant milestone on Tuesday, October 21st at Taboon Restaurant with our first regular monthly meeting under the leadership of newly installed President Myra Kremen. This historic gathering brought together nine enthusiastic members along with two special guests, Keme Weaver and Sue Baker, to launch a new chapter in our club’s journey.
A New Era of Leadership
President Myra opened her inaugural meeting with energy and organization, demonstrating the fresh perspective and dedicated service that members can expect throughout the 2025-2026 Kiwanis year. Her seamless transition into the presidential role was evident as she efficiently coordinated sign-ups for various upcoming club activities, including guest speaker opportunities, Lydia House volunteer shifts, and our Christmas family adoptions.
Meeting Highlights
The evening opened with Bob Seydel leading the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by an invocation from Roger Leue. Under President Myra’s guidance, the meeting flowed smoothly as Tony Diaz circulated a sign-up sheet seeking names of potential new members, reflecting our continued focus on membership growth under the new administration.
Upcoming Events and Activities
David provided details about our upcoming Holiday Party scheduled for Tuesday, December 2nd at Virginia Country Club. The festivities will begin at 4:30 PM with gift wrapping, followed by dinner at 6:00 PM and our traditional $30 gift exchange.
President Myra outlined an ambitious calendar of events for her tenure, including Theater Night on January 29th (for which we’ll need silent auction items), our Middle Schools Awards Luncheon set for Tuesday, June 2nd at 11:00 AM at The Grand, and Bowling Night scheduled for June 23rd.
Featured Speaker: Community Preservation and Engagement
Our guest speaker Keme Weaver from the Cal Heights Neighborhood Association shared valuable insights about local community initiatives. She highlighted the association’s focus on preservation, education, and community engagement, including their alley clean-up efforts and popular home tours. Weaver also announced an upcoming community event scheduled for December 4th at Orange and Bixby.
Fellowship and Fun
The meeting concluded with our traditional happy fines, where several members contributed with good humor and camaraderie. The gathering at Taboon Restaurant provided an excellent setting for both business and fellowship, marking an auspicious beginning to President Myra’s term and reinforcing the strong bonds that make our Kiwanis club such a vital part of the community.
