The Kiwanis Club of Bixby Knolls/North Long Beach raised nearly $12,000 during its fundraiser at the Long Beach Playhouse on Jan. 23.

Event coordinator and Kiwanis Club Vice President Myra Kremen noted that many of the 140 supporters who attended were from various area Kiwanis Clubs and the Long Beach Lions Club. Board member Alba Swalheim coordinated the silent auction.

The Bixby Knolls/North Long Beach Kiwanis Club has been serving the area for more than 60 years. The funds raised will sponsor three scholarships for Key Club high school seniors who are continuing with higher education. Money raised will also sponsor the Kiwanis Middle School Citizenship Awards Luncheon this June, which honors students from seven Bixby Knolls/North Long Beach middle schools.

Lydia House Women’s Shelter in Long Beach is one of the Kiwanis Club Foundation service projects, where throughout the year, the foundation provides dinner that is served monthly.

The Kiwanis Foundation supports the Adopt-a-Family Christmas Outreach Program in December. The club members purchase Christmas presents and $100 Target gift cards for needy families in Long Beach through the YMCA and also deliver the gifts.
