Food Finders Highlights Year-Round Mission to Fight Hunger

The Kiwanis Club of Bixby Knolls / North Long Beach recently welcomed Melody from Food Finders to share insights about their vital work in our community. While accepting our club’s canned food donations, Melody painted a picture of their comprehensive approach to fighting food insecurity.

Food Finders provides essential items including clothing, diapers, and feminine hygiene products, along with housing assistance to those in need. Their Thanksgiving program particularly showcases their thoughtful approach – providing complete turkey dinner ingredients in laundry baskets that families can later use for household needs. Families pre-register based on their size to ensure they receive appropriate portions for their household.

However, Melody’s most powerful message was about the year-round nature of hunger in our community. While holiday giving is crucial, she emphasized that summer can be especially challenging for families when children lose access to school breakfast and lunch programs. She encouraged our club to remember that “people are hungry all year long” and specifically asked us to consider donating again in July when many families face increased hardship.
